In 1993, I was in serious trouble: my business was failing, my younger sister was dying, and my anger and sense of failure were about to kill me as well. Having been away from church, away from prayer and away from God for many years, I knew that I needed to return to prayer but didn't have a clue how to do so. That's when I "accidentally" found the Spiritual Companions program at the Casa where, for an entire year, Pat Julian and her team held and guided me through developing a practice of centering prayer and gaining an integral view of human psychology and spirituality. Eventually, that experience led me to return to church and Eucharist and to many years of study in theology, scripture, spirituality and the unfolding of human consciousness. In the years since then, I have been enormously blessed by God's goodness and grace and given the opportunity to belong to the Casa community and serve others through teaching, prayer and spiritual direction ministries.
Hopefully, my legacy gift through the La Verna Society can help support the Casa in continuing to make the life-giving, love-filled, goodness-oriented Franciscan Way available to others.
